RUBOP is always looking for ways to pay for it's running costs. In the past, we've received sponsorship from the Rushcliffe Borough Council, East Midlands Airport Community Fund, Co-operative Society etc but these awards were for specific items like a trailer, ladders, various tools, camera, marquee for our road show etc. Our boxes, made at the local prison are paid for by the Rushcliffe Nature Conservation Strategy Implementation Group who give us £200 per year. However, getting cash for running costs, petrol etc can prove more difficult. I recently discovered that every County Councillor in Nottinghamshire has £10,000 per annum to spend on projects within their Division. This is called the Councillor's Division Fund and they give their allowance to Village activities, Sports Clubs etc. Rushcliffe has 9 County Councillors and I emailed each one, telling them of our activities within their division, number of boxes, number of Barn Owls fledged and the improvement over the years. The response has been very favourable and most have promised at least £100, that's £500 so far towards our running costs for next year. I would think that most Councils run similar schemes and it might be worth our Barn Owl Conservation Groups getting their hands on some of this cash. Airports also run Community Grant Schemes that will pay for things like ladders and tools etc. 2 years ago, I raised £1,200 cash by asking our Parish Councils to Sponsor boxes within their Parishes and almost all donated £50-£100 towards our Project. They cash is out their so make sure you get your share. All you've got to do is ask!!
