The Lewis #7 Barn Owl Nestbox |

 Major Nigel Lewis and his 'mark 7' nestbox Jackdaw are one of the bird species competing with Barn Owl for cavity nest sites. These crafty corvids can be extremely frustrating when you are making efforts to provide nestboxes for Barn Owl and yet you continually find boxes filled with twigs by Jackdaw. Major Nigel Lewis has developed a number of box designs over the years, while working hard for several bird species, championing raptors in particular. He and his team have installed hundreds of nestboxes across Salisbury Plain and Wiltshire. After many occurences of Jackdaw filling some of the team's best boxes with sticks - and therefore preventing owls from using them - Nigel has now developed what he believes is a box that will deter Jackdaw interference. Nigel kindly provided details to the Barn Owl Conservation Network and has permitted us to distribute a concise guide to this nestbox, which is his seventh in a long line of Barn Owl box designs.
